Today’s onesie embellishment technique is simple:  just paint a design.  That’s right — no sewing at all!  From start to finish, this project took me about 10 minutes (of course, that’s not counting the time for the paint to dry).  This is such an easy way to get personalized baby clothes – it’s similar to freezer paper stenciling, but for me, it was faster!

You will need:

  • prewashed plain onesie
  • fabric paint (I used Simply Screen)
  • fabric pencil
  • embroidery hoop

First I put my onesie in the embroidery hoop to keep the fabric nice and taught.  Then I drew out the design in the fabric pencil.

Using the fabric paint, I drew over my lines.  I used “Simply Screen.”

It was great because it has a tiny tip, so it was very easy to draw with.

Then I added the second color, like so…

The hardest part is waiting for it to dry before putting it on your little one!!

Easy peasy — works for girls and boys — the possibilities are endless!
