Cabbage, pumpkin, tomatoes, corn… I’d say all the designs below are neutral, except for the strawberry.
Eggplant, celery, asparagus, peppers… The picture below is not actually applique, but it’s cute, it’s food, and it does has a free tutorial from Sew, Mama, Sew, so I couldn’t help but include it!

Or why not put the entire meal on the shirt?
As you can see, food can be a great embellishment on neutral clothing, especially for onesies or burp cloths.
